TV makeover shows boost demand for pre-wedding surgery

The advent of extreme makeover shows has led to a rise in the number of brides undergoing cosmetic treatments before the big day, research suggests.

As cosmetic surgery and enhancement becomes more commonplace in the UK, a growing number of women are planning procedures, such as Botox, dentistry and breast lifts, as part of their bride's pre-wedding health and beauty regime.

In terms of cosmetic dentistry, Tif Qureshi, board member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentists (BACD), said that veneers and teeth whitening treatments have increased in popularity since the airing of such makeover programmes.

"I'd say maybe 25 to 30 per cent of the patients walking through the door have watched something like 10 Years Younger or Extreme Makeover," he revealed.

According to a BACD survey, only one in five people admit to being happy with their smile, with some even reporting that they are inclined to conceal their teeth when being photographed.ADNFCR-1185-ID-18745897-ADNFCR
