Since 1754, rebellious couples have ran away to say ‘I Do’ in Gretna Green, a charming wee village on the border, nestled in the picturesque Scottish countryside. Due to a change in law, in Scotland, you could marry on the spot with a simple 'marriage by declaration' and a blacksmith would marry the runaways over an anvil, forging their lives together.
Experts in elopements, today this tradition is still practiced. Our award-winning, five-star family-run business has forged couples’ hearts together here since 1885. You too can marry in the same iconic and authentic rooms where runaways stood for the past 270 years.
We host two to 180 guests over three wedding venues, with all-inclusive wedding packages which includes two 4-star hotels, Smiths Hotel and Gretna Hall Hotel, to choose from.
