5 Wedding Rules It’s Ok to Break

Weddings are filled with different traditions and while some of these can be oh-so-romantic, other wedding traditions and rules can feel restrictive and limiting. Over at hitched they think it’s ok to break the rules sometimes! Explore some of the most common wedding rules that they think were made to be broken.

Your Wedding Dress Must Be White

Your wedding dress can be any colour you like! Many wedding dress designers will offer styles in a range of pretty bridal tones such as nude, champagne, pale pink and oyster which can be a refreshing alternative to traditional white or ivory. Alternatively make a bold statement and consider deep purple, vibrant red or striking black to really surprise your guests.

Your Dress Must be Long

Just like the colour, the length of your wedding dress can be anything you want – whether you would like a micro mini, a 50’s style tea-length dress or a pretty high-low style, it’s up to. If a full length gown swamps your frame or doesn’t feel like “you” then experiment with a variety of lengths to find which suits your style.

You Must Get Married Inside

As the rules have been relaxed regarding where you can get married in the UK, getting married outside is now a real possibility. Many wedding venues are now offering beautiful outdoor settings where you can say I do under intricate archways or pretty stone gazebos.

The Groom Mustn’t See the Bride Until She Walks Down the Aisle

Over in the States, first look wedding photos are a big deal! Rather than the groom’s first glimpse of the bride being when he is stood at the wedding alter and she walks in, some couples are capturing this special moment in private just with their wedding photographer and it makes for a stunning photograph.

You Must Go on Honeymoon Straight After the Wedding

Sometimes a honeymoon straight after the wedding is just not possible – there might be budget restraints, it may be a bad time of year to visit your dream destination or getting time off work could prove tricky. Whatever the reason, pick a time and location that works for you.
