How to plan the perfect honeymoon

So you have planned a stunning wedding, down to the finest detail, now all that’s left is to plan an equally stunning honeymoon! If the thought of having to organise (and fund) anything else makes you a bit queasy, it’s the right time to call in the experts!

The Travelbag Honeymoon Experts based in Solihull gave us their top honeymoon ideas and advice for 2017 and beyond…

Which honeymoon destinations are popular right now?

Clare Daniels: The Indian Ocean – Mauritius, Maldives and Seychelles are big honeymoon destinations, and it is easy to see why. Think white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and palm trees – it is one of the most relaxing honeymoon spots.

Sarah Wing: Also US beach destinations such as Florida and Hawaii are very popular and can be combined with a US city break, so that you get to enjoy both the beach and the city on your honeymoon.

What would you recommend for couples who don’t want to spend more than a couple of days lazing on a beach?

Sarah: I would definitely recommend going to South Africa for a Safari. You can fly into Cape Town, drive along the Garden Route, do a safari and then sneak in a few beach days either in South Africa or Zanzibar.

Mia Harrison: Sri Lanka is also good for a bit of variety. You could do a tour including the cultural sights of the north, such as tea plantations and National Parks (including safari) and then relax on a beach.

Clare Daniels: Consider heading to the beach for the first couple days of your honeymoon before heading out on a tour or to the city. You will want a rest straight after your wedding!

What are your top tips for starting to plan a romantic honeymoon?

Sarah: The first thing to do is check what the weather is like in your chosen destination right after your wedding. Remember, you don’t have to go on honeymoon straight away, so you could wait until the weather is right. You can always have a shorter “mini-moon” to relax straight after your wedding, before doing a longer honeymoon later in the year.

Mia: A lot of hotels offer special discounts and gifts for honeymooners, such as free spa treatments, meals or upgrades. Ask your Honeymoon Expert about these.

Clare: Relieve the financial pressure by asking your friends and family to contribute towards your honeymoon as a wedding gift. You can open a Honeymoon Gift List with Travelbag and we will take care of this for you.

What would you recommend to make a honeymoon extra special, particularly for couples who have already travelled together a lot?

Helen: Booking a flight upgrade to Business Class is a really nice way to add a touch of luxury to your honeymoon. Many airlines will greet you with a glass of champagne when you board to kick off the celebrations and you will arrive at your destination more refreshed with the comfy seats and flat beds.
