Hey guys, it’s Tipi Unique here! We’re the folks that adore creating unique weddings and experiences, in fact we’re a little bit obsessed! Hands up if you’re newly engaged and looking for some unconventional, and supercool wedspiration? Tired of seeing the same old marquee, barn, and manor house venues? Not a massive fan of speeches, seating plans, or formalities? Say no more – we’re completely on your wavelength!

The ultimate indie tipi wedding

We’re so excited to share one of our fave real life weddings of 2019 – Susannah & David’s indie tipi wedding. When we first met Susannah & David we just knew their wedding was going to be out of this world! The couple were dead set on a relaxed and untraditional celebration, with a festival of foodie flavours and limitless amounts of love! With that being said, we just know that this blog is certain to give you an abundance of ideas for your very own quirky tipi wedding…

The Venue

After officially tying the knot back in March this year, Susannah & David wanted to celebrate their love with their very own tipi wedding reception during the summer. Susannah’s brother kindly offered up the land at his private home for their tipi wedding venue. We just loved this gorgeous plot – it was secluded, picturesque, and of course personal to the couple. The perfect setting to reminisce old memories whilst creating new ones!

Tipi Unique wedding set up

Susannah & David chose two giant tipis – one for guest seating, and one for the dance floor area. They also selected rustic table/bench sets, wooden dance floor, Edison light bulb displays, and a bespoke ceremony arch, along with other decorative pieces from our Uniquely Styled collection. They opted for matted walkways and festoon lighting, which not only added a festival vibe and mega first impressions, but was practical for keeping guests dry and making the route easier for those sporting heels!

We love nothing more than when client’s have access to their own land, it gives the perfect opportunity to completely let loose and create a space that is entirely bespoke. However, if you are stuck for a venue, we’ve got a fab selection of beautiful spots across the North West that offer just as much freedom!

The Ceremony

Since Susannah & David’s official ceremony was very intimate, they opted to recreate their blessing surrounded by their loved ones. The couple had hoped for an outdoor ceremony underneath their hand-crafted archway, however the weather had other ideas…But did that stop them? Absolutely not! Susannah & David brought their ceremony inside the dance floor tipi, which was super cosy, warm and nothing short of stunning. They created an isle by lining benches across each side of the dance floor, and guests were encouraged to sit wherever they liked. One of our fave parts was when their beloved fury friend, Cooper, came bounding over to greet the happy couple! What a super-cute idea for your ring bearer too!

Susannah looked incredible in her boho-style gown and decorative headpiece. We love how she paired the look with black heels to add in indie touch to her bridal ensemble! David also looked the part in his suit, and together they were a perfect match. We embrace all kinds of weather with open arms, and in fact the splashes of rain made for some fabulously unique, and somewhat moody, wedding shots! We shower all clients with advice about managing unpredictable weather/ground conditions, and with our trusty weather proofing techniques all tipi event will be warm, dry, and full to the brim with feel-good vibes!

The Décor and Styling

Our tipis were dressed beautifully with lush greenery and fresh white blooms, they lend themselves perfectly to rustic and rural stylings, and Susannah & David’s florist captured the theme effortlessly. We’ve been obsessing over the hanging macrame vases, wooden swing and floral hoops – they added such a whimsical and boho feel, whilst remaining simplistic and elegant. The whole venue was styled with foliage, milk churns, DIY pallet signs, bunting, crates and more!

All of these ideas are super easy to recreate, and although they are simple, they’re definitely eyecatching. Susannah & David also had light up letters galore! Supplied by the brilliant Love Lights The Way, they had giant MR & MRS RODRIQUEZ letters behind the dance floor, as well as LOVE letters inside one of the linked sections. We seriously doubt that this will be a trend that fades away, as they just add such luminance to any venue, and really help to ramp up the party atmosphere as evening draws in. Plus they make amazing insta-worthy photo opportunities too!

The Food and Drink

Having the most delicious food possible was a huuuge aspect of Susannah & David’s day! We cannot stop eyeing up the snaps of that incredible grazing table by The Manchester Platter Co – how insane does it all look?! They also incorporated David’s Spanish heritage in the catering, so an extremely large dish of paella was of course mandatory – we bet it was the best paella their guests had ever tasted!

Their gorgeous naked cake reflected the theme and styling throughout their wedding tipis, and was baked lovingly by the bride herself! If we remember rightly each layer was a different flavour
which gave guests a great variety to try. Naked cakes are so on-trend at the moment, and are just perfect for complementing any rustic venue.

Susannah & David also selected a charming horse box bar for their celebratory tipples. The Craft 17 bar was decorated beautifully so that it was in keeping with our tipis and the rustic countryside
theme. The bar became quite the focal point for some wedding snaps, and in fact these cheeky pics are some of our faves! We’re also IN LOVE with the fact they served china cups of tea – very British, and a very quaint touch to their day!

Opting for an outdoor bar is often a great way to save room inside you tipis! We love a drink (or 5) in this country, and we know from experience that bars are usually one of the best-loved areas.
We’re committed to planning the perfect space (both visually and functionally), so will of course offer advice about where best to locate your bar inside your tipis layout. We can even recommend
some fab bar folk too!

We absolutely loved helping to create Susannah & David’s tipi wedding, and as you can see from the pics there was certainly love and laughter all around! We wish them all the best, and a lifetime
of happiness.
