Top tips on finding the perfect dress from Ian Stuart

By the time you’re ready to start wedding dress shopping, you’ve probably gathered a hefty sized list about your dream dress. Most bridal shops only let you book an hour-long appointment. If you can narrow down your options before heading to the dressing room,you will be in for a much more  laid-back and pleasing shopping experience. We caught up with Ian Stuart to see his top tips for brides to consider before going to their first appointment.

The sample dress you see is your starting point. Your dress will be uniquely made for you, so if there are elements you like about a dress, and others you don’t, ask questions about how it can be made differently to suit you. Here are the main things to consider that could prevent you for passing up on your perfect gown…  

 COLOUR: The same dress can look dramatically different in colour than it does in ivory, ask about the possibilities for that style.

SILHOUETTE: Don’t be put off if your dream bodice has a skirt shape that doesn’t suit you, it may be possible to change the shape entirely. Or if you see a style, but you want in a dramatically different length.

DAY TO NIGHT

ADDING YOUR OWN FLAVOUR: Don’t be shy if want to make changes, you are not insulting the designer, everyone has different tastes.  Adding lace, flowers, diamantes etc are easy things to do that can make a dramatic difference.

FROM DAY TO NIGHT: If you want get two looks from your gown, look at elements that could be detachable, such as shoulder strap, lower skirt and train are things to consider, and think about completely different accessories that could transform your look.

AND FINALLY, IAN’S TOP TIPS FOR MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR BRIDAL APPOINTMENT: Keep an open mind about everything. Always be honest with your stylist. Don’t bring too many people!
