5 Fabulous Skincare Tips for Winter Brides

Winter-proof your skin ahead of the big day with these top tips from celebrity skin therapist and Panasonic Beauty skincare ambassador Louise Thomas-Minns.

If you’re worried about undereye dark-circles in the run up to the wedding from all the stress of planning then worry no more! Panasonic have also put together their expert tips for preventing dark circles.

#1 Listen up…
How do we know when it’s time to change up our daily skin routine? You have to really listen to your skin. If your skin doesn’t feel comfortable then a product is not working how it’s meant to. It’s time for a change! Does your skin feel tight? Is your skin experience excessive flaking? Are you producing more oil than normal? (Yes, dehydration/water loss increases oil within the skin.) If the products aren’t working anymore, your skin will let you know.

#2 The heat is on…
When the heat is on at night that means your skin has dry air blowing on it for about seven hours or more while you sleep. The dry air looks for moisture wherever it can get it and that means taking it from your skin. A process of Osmosis. This makes your night time skin care routine crucial in the winter so you can prevent unnecessary dryness. You should be using a night-time moisturiser (any moisturiser without SPF) that is appropriate for your skin type..

#3 Get your beauty sleep…
Before switching to heavier products try out this secret, yet simple, solution. If you have a humidifier, put this in your bedroom during the winter months. Or why not try the Panasonic Beauty Facial Steamer? This trick will work, for both dry skin and those prone to outbreaks. When we feel our skin getting dryer our first idea is to use a heavier, creamier moisturiser. A humidifier or steamer will put more moisture into the air, which will regulate your bedroom’s environment. Your skin can grab more hydration without causing you to purchase a new moisturiser.

#4 A clean sweep…
I cannot stress enough the importance of not only washing your skin morning and night, but also to use a cleanser that will not dry the skin out and cause damage. Many foaming and gel cleansers made today are formulated with an ingredient called Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Ammonium Laureth Sulfate.
This ingredient is a surfactant; a cleansing agent that cuts oil from the skin. These ingredients are simply too harsh and will strip the water out of the skin after every wash leaving the skin feeling tight and creating more oil and shine. And what you wash with is the MOST important part of your skin care routine. Why? Because if you wash with a foaming cleanser or soap that is too drying, it pulls all the water out of the skin and creates a dead, dry skin cell build up.
If you are concerned that a lighter cleanser will not remove all of your make-up, try a cleansing brush. Panasonic Beauty’s Micro-Foaming Facial Cleansing Brush is one of the softest brushes on the market and boasts a skincare must-have at either end; some of the softest cleansing bristles you will find on the market to a gentle warming plate at the base, something that no other cleansing brush offers.

#5 Layer up…
If you know there’s a chance you’re going to sweat in a thick jumper, you opt for two thinner layers of clothing. The same can be said of your skincare. The basics of just cleansing and moisturising may not be enough as your skin changes with the winter climate. Applying moisturiser consistently is important; however, when your skin craves more hydration, the answer is not using a thicker layer of your moisturiser product. The solution for alleviating tight, dry skin is using a specialty serum or elixir to accompany your moisturiser.
